Audio engineering with cells and atoms is a form of molecular computing. Molecular computing is a multidisciplinary research topic that originated in the School of Mathematical Sciences at Swinburne University of Technology. Further R&D in the biotechnology labs is presently underway as part of the Computational Nanotechnology Group - Faculty of Life and Social Sciences; Environment & Biotechnology Centre. Dr. Cameron L. Jones developed this method to work with sound and image files. The method is also suitable for remixing music video, and has been used during public nightclub and other performances. The methods have been peer-reviewed and further details are available from the original articles.

Artwork: Front, Back, Insert Detail
Remixed using : A series of self-similar [fractal] shapes were modelled in Mathematica and then mapped into almost polar coordinates. These were thermally printed onto the data surface of each audio-CD. Each CD print was cycled through the colours: red, green, blue, black, silver and multiple images were printed in order for each of the 6 tracks to be remixed. Each CD was tested on a PC running Windows Media Player.
The CD's were produced to demonstrate how sensitive dependence on initial conditions can be exploited by the end-user - so that the same CD will behave differently on different play-back systems. Therefore, no two cd's will generate the same remix! The CD's can be played out to hear the effects, or the contents of each CD can be digitally extracted [ripped] to capture the nonlinear effects.
